Russell Hanson – owner of  Qaayuuk Fishing and Lodge

I grew up as a son and grandson of commercial fishermen – fishing is in my blood. My first job was at age 10 as a fisherman, and I continued fishing as a commercial troller, gillnetting and herring gillnetter. In 1999 I started guiding with  several fishing resorts on the West Coast. 

In 2024 I purchased a floating lodge, I am the proud owner of the new Qaayuuk Fishing and lodging. I own and operate this business along with my previous water taxi and forestry business. I now own 4 boats, 2 trucks and 2 quads for my businesses and a 10 bedroom lodge that can hold up to 18 people.

I employ 2 people in forestry, and 2-3 people with water taxis, and 5-7 people with the lodge. My goals and ambitions come from wanting to see better for our people and striving for more for our people. And to show that if you work hard you can accomplish anything you want. I hope to be a successful business not only for me but for the people I employ so that they have work when they need.
